This film about a hypermarket that doesn't exist is a docu-hoax a la Michael Moore (Farenheit 9/11) and Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me): film students Filip Remunda and Vit Klusak set out to make a statement about how people can be easily fooled by advertising and lured by a bargain. But, in doing so, they didn't realise that they were actually creating a treatise on consumerism in a post-Communist society. The film follows a fictitious, and fraudulent, ad campaign around the opening of a new store opening called Czech Dream - the Hypermarket for a Better Life. Ad agency BBDO gets involved, Hugo Boss donates suits, Tesco products are re-branded and the city of Prague is covered with the Czech Dream logo through JC Decaux billboards, ads and pamphlets. There's even a catchy jingle broadcast nationally on radio and television. No one could have predicted what happened on May 31, 2003, when some 4000 people turned up in hopes of being the first through the door and getting the best deals in town on everything from toilet paper to white goods, only to find an open field with a huge shop facade. The 'little' stunt of creating the Czech Dream managed to stir up a nation.
